The Sims 2 was released September 2004, and is the sequel of the most popular PC game ever. It's just better!
In The Sims 2, the Sims has DNA, meaning that the children will look like a mix of their parents. The Sims will also age during the game, going thrugh six life stages (baby, toddler, child, teenager, adult and elder) before they die of old age. This is, however, not the only way to die. There is many ways to die, and the colour of ther ghost depends on how the Sim died.
Babies, toddlers and children can't die, but they will get taken away by the social worker if they are neglected. Teens might run away from home.

Another new feature in The Sims 2 is memories.
The Sims will now remember both good and bad things that happens during their life. These memories will affect the Sim's personality, so if your Sim catch her best friend kissing her boyfriend, she will remember this forever.
The Sims also have aspirations (family, knowledge, fortune, popularity and romance) which determines their wants and fears. A want can be something like: Teach toddler to walk, get a logic skill point, make 1000 §, meet somebody new or flirt. Fears can be things like: get sick, have bad conversation or relative dies.
